Electronic Health Record (EHR)

Since its founding, Facey Medical Group has been at the forefront of medicine, embracing patient care and innovation as a core principle. Today, it remains a leader in the rapidly evolving health care industry with numerous state-of-the-art programs and technologies including Facey's electronic health record (EHR) system.

What is an EHR?

In 2001, Facey Medical Group implemented its electronic health record (EHR) system, making it one of the earliest adopters of this technology and one of the few physician groups in the southern California to have such a system. EHRs, which replace paper charts, allow physicians and clinical staff at any Facey location to securely access patient information, such as a patient's medical history and laboratory results, without scrambling to find paper records.

The EHR allows medical providers to document interactions with patients; view medical history and insurance information; order tests and see test results; make referrals and send electronic prescription requests to pharmacies. Physicians enter orders in the EHR using computerized physician order entry (CPOE), which has been shown to increase accuracy and improve patient care. The system also provides clinical guidelines for physicians, printed summaries of visits for patients and other services. Facey Medical Group continually adds new features to the system to improve delivery of patient care.

Benefits of EHR

Facey Medical Group creates an electronic health record (EHR) for each of its patients, placing comprehensive health information at the fingertips of any Facey medical provider who treats the patient. Rather than chasing paper records, physicians, nurses and other staff members can access the EHR from any Facey’s location where their patients receive care.

The EHR allows physicians and staff members to:

  • Document interactions with patients
  • View medical histories and insurance information
  • Make referrals
  • Order laboratory tests and view test results
  • Send electronic prescription requests to the patient's preferred pharmacy
  • Flag potentially harmful drug interactions
  • It also provides physicians with "decision support" tools, such as clinical guidelines and checks for drug interactions; and generates printed post-visit summaries for patients, among other benefits.
