California still requires masks to be worn in health care settings. Patients, physicians and staff will be required to continue wearing masks at all Facey locations. Everyone over age 12 is now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in California and certain immunocompromised adults over 18 are eligible for a third booster shot. Learn more.

Hospital-Based Care

Also known as: Inpatient Physician Care

Facey hospitalists are a special group of physicians that care for you during your stay in our partner hospitals, monitoring test results and adjusting treatment as necessary. In case of an emergency, a Facey hospitalist is always nearby. Hospitalists also keep your primary care team informed of your situation to ensure there are no gaps in your ongoing care and treatment plans.

A hospitalist is available 24/7 to discuss any health concerns with patients and families, and to assist in everyone's understanding of the patient's condition and treatment.

Hospitalists benefit our patients in several important ways:

  • They have extensive experience caring for patients in the hospital environment, including critical care, post-surgical care, palliative care and more
  • They give your primary care team the freedom to focus on the everyday health care needs of patients
  • They ensure you have someone to talk to 24/7 about you or your loved ones' clinical status and plan of care
  • During critical and stressful moments, they are there to provide compassionate and honest answers to your most difficult questions.

Nocturnists, whose expertise is in monitoring and caring for patients during the overnight hours, are a sub-specialization of hospitalists and ensure you have uninterrupted access to a Facey doctor when you are in the hospital.

Hospitalists do not attend to patients being seen in the Emergency Department. They see patients who have been admitted (inpatient) for either scheduled or ongoing emergency care. They also may not be the only Facey physicians you see during your stay. Our team of surgeons, pediatricians, and OB/Gyn physicians also regularly visit our partner hospitals may visit you if you are currently under their care.

Our hospitalists are selected for their medical expertise, compassion and excellent communication skills. With your permission, Facey hospitalists will also answer any questions that family members may have.
Facey hospitalists and primary care teams are partners. Our hospitalists have access to your electronic health record from all of our partner hospitals, including Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. This ensures that your entire care team always has access to the most updated information about you during your hospital stay.

Facey hospitalists are primarily responsible for your care while hospitalized, although primary care physicians may visit you at the hospital, too. Because the hospitalist and primary care team are in frequent communication, your PCP may wait to see you in their office after you have been discharged.
